The guide was succinct enough to get to know the city and main sights in a few pages and I used the two main itineies for two of our days in Shanghai. I found the map of Shanghai that accompanied the book daunting a large map of no real use except to point out the sheer size and geography of the region and districts. It was useful to know where Zhabei, Pudong and Hongqaio were in relation to each other and from the scale of the map realised only that it would be useful to locate ourselves centrally to save journeying. The map on the inside of the book cover and the outside of the book cover is more useful and helped us locate the main sights easily. All in all this book though outdated the information is still up to date and I find AA guides generally very practical and useful.

I bought this for a weekend trip to Shanghai for the GP.I'm glad I got it cheap on Amazon because if I'd paid full price for this I would have been extremely annoyed at wasting the money.I ended up giving up with this altogether and relied on the free map and tourist information leaflets that the hotel gave me.If you want a pocket travel guide for Shanghai perhaps look and see if the Berlitz range have updated theirs. It's a better size and hopefully the information will be better.
